Single Woman in the City

As of today I am OFFICIALLY unpacked and organized in my apartment!! I have a few little things left to hang up on the walls, but overall it’s pretty dang cute. I’ve been living on my own for 3 whole months now and have been bad about getting into a routine, but can say that I’m onto my new norm now.

Photo School

As part of my “new year new me” trend that I’m actually kinda keeping up with, I took a photography class in March and April. It was Photo I at Richard Stromberg’s Photography School in Ravenswood, and I didn’t quite know what to expect. The first class was the Tuesday after I returned from Vegas and I showed up ten minutes late. It was a decently full class and they spent the time going over the basics of how to use the camera. It was a bit boring, especially after a long day of work, but after seven weeks my photos/knowledge improved significantly.

A Weekend in Bean Town

This past weekend I got to visit the people who were there when this whole website started, my abroad friends. It’s been nearly a year since I’ve seen both of them, and it was amazing to reconnect. The last time I saw Meaghan we were in Switzerland escaping the reality of job hunting and the last time for Ally was in Miami on her spring break. Needless to say a reunion trip was very much needed.

Apartment Hunting

Apartment hunting in the city is easyish if you have the right help. There were two things I was pretty stubborn about when I was looking: price and location. Oh and I knew I absolutely needed to live by myself without a roommate. This always surprises people for some reason.

Chicago Activities

Now that the big Vegas trip is over, I feel like I can start to get settled in my Chicago plans and work on some goals I’ve set for 2018. Finding the right volunteer organization is top of my list. I’ve spent some time researching what would be a good fit. It’s tough because there are so many great opportunities across various fields that it makes it difficult to narrow it down. After some time on the internet, I noticed my interests peaked around organizations working to end poverty, human trafficking, gender inequality and some that support youth development. I’m excited to get in touch with these local organizations and see how I can get involved.

Sin City

To say I had the time of my life would be an understatement. My #SquadTrip2k18 started with a long plane ride across the West with two of my friends, landing in the desert surrounded by tackiness. By far the best part of the trip was reuniting with everyone and getting to hang out the crew that hasn’t all been together since we graduated in May. What lied ahead no one truly knew, but it was definitely going to be wild.

2018 Vibes Only

I was alone in my apartment in my Miami thinking, “Is this real?” while aggressively chugging pinot grigio. For many Americans, that day and that moment will be something to remember and to speak of for the rest of their lives.

A New York Minute

Only four days in New York and I had more experiences than I ever bargained for. After almost being left homeless, an emergency room visit that required an IV, and some crazy Australians celebrating our nation’s birthday, I was on my way back to Chicago. That was New York in a nutshell, but it was the little things that made it an amazing trip.

Women Who Work

I’m back from France and have finally started my new internship at Nielsen. It’s at the Chicago office, and while I’m still getting used to what seems like a permanent state of exhaustion, I think I’m really going to like this job. The previous two summers I worked at Public Relations companies in the city. I absolutely loved the companies and everything that they stood for, but last summer I truly realized that PR isn’t for me.
